Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed Yerson Mosquera will spend a “significant spell” on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury.

The centre-back had been a regular for Wolves this season, but at the weekend he was stretchered off during Wolves’ defeat to Aston Villa.

Wolves have stated the 23-year-old is unlikely to feature again this season. On Tuesday, Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra stated Mosquera would be out for seven to nine months.

PL Brasil are of the belief André could help provide cover for the Colombia international at Molineux.

Gary O’Neil has Santiago Bueno, 34-year-old Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes as other three centre-backs at his disposal. The latter has missed recent fixtures due to injury.

The Wolves manager is short of options in the heart of defence. He could rely upon youngsters or use André as a centre-back. The 23-year-old midfielder joined the Premier League side from Fluminense on deadline day.

Last year, former Fluminense manager Fernando Diniz had limited options in his defence. He moved André to the centre-back position, and this helped the Brazil club improve their performances.

PL Brasil say Fluminense’s ‘defence gained quality in passing the ball due to the precision of the midfielder’s passes’.

Wolves are yet to register a league win this season. PL Brasil have sent a message to O’Neil that he can rely upon André in defence… to help Wolves recover from a difficult start to this season.
