Making his way up the ranks in the Italian league before heading to the Premier League to Tottenham, Cristian Romero has established himself as a key member in Antonio Conte’s team.
Not only that, but he is also an important player for his country, as he was recently called up by Lionel Scaloni to represent Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar.
There was a bit of doubt, at least for a short period of time, regarding his fitness, but the Tottenham centre-back has passed all the fitness tests and will be on the plane to the competition.
The 24-year-old started off his career at Belgrano before heading to Genoa, which led to a move to Juventus a year later.
He was then sent on loan to Atalanta, who eventually bought him before sending him to Tottenham, who first got him temporarily before paying €50m in the summer to make it permanent.
This long route, filled with many ups and a few downs, have turned him into the player he is today, and manager Gustavo Coleoni, relayed by Canal Show Sport, feels everything he is getting is deserved.
First describing the Tottenham defender as a ‘very complete centre-back’, he then added: “He invites the challenges, goes for the tackle, he goes looking for it. That’s why he’s playing at a world level.”
A ‘product of aggressiveness’, Romero is everything you want in a defender, and it seems he feels Tottenham are lucky to have such a player in their squad, as are Argentina.
