Getafe have put a hold on Marc Cucurella’s move to Brighton and Hove Albion as they argue over the ‘type of payment.
That’s according to EsportsRAC1 journalist Gerard Romero, who says the two sides disagree on how to pay for the Spaniard.
Brighton have been linked with a move for Cucurella all summer and seemed to be closing in on a deal this week as reports indicated as such.
Indeed, we covered a report from Cadena Cope stating that Brighton were getting their man and paying his €18m clause to bring him to the Amex.
It seems, though, that the two sides disagree on how that figure should be paid. Romero reports that while Getafe want the €18m in cash, Brighton want to pay the figure in instalments.
In other words, the Spanish side want the clause paid in full, but Brighton don’t want to do that. While they’re willing to match the figure, they want to structure the deal in instalments instead.
This isn’t unusual when matching a Spanish clause, and when the selling club wants to be awkward they can insist the clause is officially activated, which means paying the amount in full immediately.

That’s seemingly caused something of a problem between the two clubs, and Romero say Getafe ‘paralyse’ the operation as a result.
He does say that negotiations between them and Brighton are continuing, though, so there is sure to be movement at some point.
Romero also confirms that Barcelona will be taking €1.8m from the operation after reports stated the same yesterday.
