Despite the controversial situation that Getafe put themselves in with the signing of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, the Spanish club apparently won’t be using him quickly.
Club manager José Bordalas today held a press conference ahead of the match against Osasuna, and was obviously questioned about the Red Devils loanee, who was signed on deadline day.
Speaking of Greenwood as if he was some kind of victim of his own situation, the coach said the forward is not yet ready to play, won’t be in the match-day squad, and is getting help from teammates to adapt.
The quotes are relayed by Mundo Deportivo.
“It’s a great hope and there’s great expectation to see him. He’s been a year and a half without competing, at a standstill, and he is in that period of adaptation and of catching up with his teammates. We have to be patient and look after him. Day by day he will tell us when he is ready to compete. We have to have patience, calm and tranquillity,” said Bordalas.
“We know the potential and the level he has. I don’t like to talk on an individual level but his teammates are helping him a lot. The dressing room has welcomed him with open arms, just like the rest of the new players, and everyone has felt the warmth of the group.”
Getafe, who have milked every ounce of attention they can get from their controversial signing, at times even seeming to revel in the nature of the situation, haven’t gone as far as to actually rush the player on to the pitch.
Manchester United, who had given the impression they were set to permanently part ways with the player following the alleged abuse he committed, and the recordings which so many people heard, instead decided to loan him to the Spanish club.
Some, who were relieved when United finally made a decision, fear that leaves a door open for the Old Trafford club to take him back in the future.
