It appears that following the 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham, Steven Gerrard has decided to bolster his defence this summer.

This is what the latest story to come out from Germany suggests, with Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg claiming the Aston Villa manager wants Matthias Ginter.

The Borussia Mönchengladbach defender is out of contract this summer and it’s been made clear he wouldn’t renew, leaving on a free.

Inter have been linked, but it seems Aston Villa are the latest to add themselves to the queue.

Taking to Twitter to relay the information about Ginter, Plettenburg explains ‘Gerrard wants him!’, as officials from the Premier League club have ‘spoken to his management’.

However, the German centre-back has yet to give the green light on his next move and ‘has not made a decision’.

In fact, he ‘waits for other options’, meaning either Aston Villa need to be patient or need to be more convincing.
