Loris Karius is Simon Mignolet’s worst nightmare. The German goalkeeper made his Liverpool debut against Derby this week and impressed, especially when racing from goal to perform a sliding tackle.
Already being labelled a sweeper-keeper, Karius will believe he’s able to offer an extra dimension to Liverpool’s team, and many fans of the club agree.
Karius isn’t disadvantaged by having made enough Liverpool appearances to make some mistakes, so there’s not a single blemish on his record with the club, whereas Mignolet’s mistakes are brought up repeatedly.
German magazine Kicker have an article in this week’s edition saying that it’s ‘only a matter of time’ before Karius becomes first choice goalkeeper for Jurgen Klopp. They explain the Liverpool manager bought Karius because he wasn’t convinced with Mignolet, and that the former Mainz goalkeeper breaking his hand only served to slow things down.
Kicker believe that whilst Mignolet may start Liverpool’s next match, a mistake will allow Klopp to make Karius first choice, and they seem to believe it would stay that way.
