On Tuesday, Leandro Trossard’s goal in the 76th minute saw Arsenal get a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Emirates.
Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal an early lead in the 12th minute before Serge Gnabry scored the equaliser six minutes later. Harry Kane, on his return to north London, gave Bayern a lead in the 32nd minute, but the Belgian’s goal saw the Gunners avoid defeat at home.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães’ performances haven’t impressed German newspaper Bild, and they made that clear when grading both Arsenal and Bayern players.
The player ratings are very different to what you’re probably used to.
Whilst most ratings are out of 10, or sometimes 5, Bild use the German school grading system. 1 means very good, 2 is good, 3 is average, 4 is passable but still lacking, 5 is deficient and 6 is insufficient. A 6 is the lowest possible grade and, taking it back to the school grades, it means that not only were things not up to standard, but there was even a failure to understand the basics.
Meanwhile, Thomas Müller has expressed his frustration after the referee, Glenn Nyberg, didn’t award a penalty to Bayern.
The incident took place in the second half when goalkeeper David Raya passed the ball to Gabriel his own box and the Brazilian picked it up.
“I don’t know. The referee saw it clearly. The mistake was just too stupid and too petty for him to give a penalty,” he told Bild.
“But he doesn’t have to decide that. The referee is there to enforce the rules. Even if you may not be satisfied with the rule. I don’t think the rule says: OK, if it wasn’t intentional, put the ball down again for a goal kick… I don’t know what it says. I think it’s a clear penalty.”
The return leg will take place at the Allianz Arena on April 17th.
