Manchester United’s last league win over Everton saw Victor Lindelöf, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford struggling with injuries.
The Sweden international was nursing a back problem and was substituted at half time in the Red Devils’ Champions League defeat to İstanbul Başakşehir on November 4th.
However, he ended up playing the entire match against the Toffees a few days later, and also made it to the national team squad for November’s international break.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defender was left out of Sweden’s squad for the friendly tie against Denmark, due to UK Covid-19 regulations, but he started in the UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and France.
Filip Helander replaced the United player in the 67th minute against the World Cup winners because Lindelöf was forced to go off the pitch, reports Aftonbladet.
It’s now been reiterated the centre-back has been struggling with a back problem for the past few weeks and these details have been revealed by Sweden assistant manager Peter Wettergren.
“He was in a bit of pain after the match against Croatia, but said that he will give everything for the team,” Wettergren was quoted as saying by.
“He was able to train okay yesterday and said ‘I’ll push as long as possible’. He gave me a signal at half time that he would not go the whole [of second] half. Then I told him to shout when it is not possible.”
Manchester United take on West Bromwich Albion at the weekend and Solskjaer will be hoping the Swede will recover in time to face the Baggies.
