When newspapers feature interviews with Premier League stars, they don’t normally ask too many questions about potential transfers, because they know that players won’t talk a lot about it.

That’s why it caught our attention that when featuring a two-page story with Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves today, Portuguese outlet Record didn’t mind asking him about his future more than once.

Just after opening the interview quizzing Neves about his 300 games milestone and his season with Bruno Lage, the newspaper asked what he thinks about  the transfer window, as the January market is about to open.

“It’s normal in football. Whenever there’s a transfer market there’s a lot of talk, but my goal and focus are on Wolverhampton and I’m not going to change that, things have been going really well for me,” Neves told Record.

“I still have a lot to learn, I have a lot to give here. The future will be seen soon, I like to live in the present and I’m happy, I feel great at Wolverhampton and I’ll focus here, because if I do things right I’m sure the future will be bright. My goal will always be to give my best and give even more for the club.”

Then the midfielder was asked if he’s involved in market process, or whether that is all left in the hands of agent Jorge Mendes.

“Fortunately, I work with the best in the world in that regard, so I don’t care about any of that, I just care about playing my football and whatever comes along will certainly be the best for me.”

Record also wanted to know if, after making 200 games for Wolves, he still dreams of playing in other leagues.

“I could easily see myself having the rest of my career here, it’s a spectacular championship. Only those who pass through here know how good it is to participate in the Premier League, how much we grow with each game and each training session, the environment in stadiums, the way football is lived, the way fans respect the players… It’s another level and, honestly, I see myself doing my entire career here.

“But in football, the future is very uncertain and we don’t know what will happen. Obviously, I’m curious to see other championships, but I definitely like being here.”

Record didn’t want to make any sensationalism with his answers, highlighting that Neves ‘guarantees he still has a lot to learn and give at Wolverhampton, where he feels happy’.
