Missing from the Fulham squad to face Manchester United, Aleksandar Mitrovic was left to one side by Marco Silva ahead of the World Cup.
Regardless of his physical status, the player was always going to be called up by Serbia for the tournament unless there was no chance of him playing.
Him missing the last two games for Fulham with a chance to return in the tournament was enough for Dragon Stojkovic to include him on the plane to go to Qatar, where he will also have to figure out when to play Dusan Vlahovic.
The Juventus star is also short of being fully fit, but the Serbia national team manager isn’t overly concerned, fully believing the two will feature in the international tournament.
He even joked about it in a press conference when he was asked about the Fulham striker and his current status, making it clear the player absolutely wanted to be there.
He said, relayed by Sportal: “Mitrovic will go to the World Cup without a leg. We can even shorten his head… (laughs) We still have time to change some things, but I highly doubt there will be any. Mitrovic can go to Qatar with one foot, why not? To be unique with a player who plays with one leg, like no one else in the world.”
Both the Fulham and Juventus stars are working their way back to full fitness, and we will have to wait and see whether one (or both) will be ready to face Brazil in their country’s opener next Thursday.
