Fulham star Andreas Pereira has insisted Real Madrid’s Vinícius Junior simply has to win the Ballon D’Or, or something is amiss with the competition.
ESPN Brazil have an interview with the Fulham midfielder today in which he makes it clear who he thinks should be picking up the golden ball on Monday.
Vinicius Junior is currently the outstanding favourite after scoring 24 goals and registering 11 assists in 39 games as well as winning La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid.
He was also in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season for the third straight year, their Player of the Season for the first time and in the La Liga Team of the Season.
This season he has stated in equally good form, with eight goals and seven assists in 14 games in all competitions so far, including a superb hattrick in the 5-2 win over Borussia Dortmund earlier this week.
That performance has almost cemented his place as one of the leading players in the world and Pereira, who plays alongside the 24-year-old for Brazil, is convinced he should be walking away with the prestigious award.
“He will, he will take [the prize],” the Fulham star said.
“There’s no way. If he doesn’t, the guys have got their hands on it. It’s not possible. Have you seen the game now, the last one [against Borussia Dortmund]? What’s that… The second goal is a joke. Outrageous. He’s too good.”
