Fulham star Andreas Pereira is still remembered in Brazil for a mistake he made at Flamengo back in 2021.
During the Copa Libertadores final against Palmeiras that year, the midfielder slipped while passing the ball back to the goalkeeper, giving Deyverson the chance to score the winner in extra time.
As the two clubs faced each other in the Brazilian league last night, UOL today points out that Andreas Pereira was ‘honoured’, but not in a friendly way.
Even though the now Fulham player used to belong to Flamengo, a Palmeiras fan had a Palmeiras shirt with Pereira’s name and number on it, thanking him for the help to win that title.
That was just one of the many provocations from fans, which were actually the good side of a very poor match on Sunday afternoon.
Pereira played for Flamengo on loan when he was owned by Manchester United, and that mistake is a reason he’ll forever be marked in Brazil. The player doesn’t hide his wish to return to the Rio de Janeiro side one day, but there’s still a long way to go, especially because of how well he’s been doing for Fulham since joining the Whites.
