On Friday, Fulham’s Joachim Andersen played the full 90 minutes for Denmark in their UEFA Nations League defeat to Spain.
Bold say the centre-back and Marseille’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg are both suspended for the clash against Serbia on Monday, after picking up a yellow card against La Roja.
The Fulham player was cautioned in the 90th minute, 11 minutes after the midfielder was booked yesterday.
Denmark manager Brian Riemer is ‘truly annoyed’ that he won’t be able to rely upon the defender and the midfielder to face Serbia. That’s because they need a point on Monday, to qualify for the last eight of the UEFA Nations League.
According to Bold, both the 28-year-old and Højbjerg are ‘now travelling home’ to Fulham and Marseille respectively. The former Anderlecht manager didn’t hold back his frustration over losing the duo for the crucial clash on Monday.
“We are losing our captain and one of the defence generals. It’s a pity, but it is a task that must be solved. I probably won’t sleep much tonight. But we have a list ready and know which options we can choose,” he said, as quoted by Bold.
Andersen has made nine appearances for Fulham since joining them from Crystal Palace in the summer window. The Dane leaving the national team camp early should be welcomed by both Marco Silva and his side.
After the international break, Fulham host Wolverhampton Wanderers on November 23rd.
