Fulham made a late bid for AC Milan forward Charles de Ketelaere but were unable to convince the Italian side to break an agreement with Atalanta.

That’s according to Corriere della Sera’s Bergamo edition, who say Marco Silva’s side ‘entered suddenly’ in an attempt to secure the Belgian’s signature.

The newspaper explains that De Ketelaere is one step away from joining Atalanta, who have an agreement with Milan to sign the forward on loan for a year for €3m and cover his wages for a year.

He is now ‘one step away’ from joining Atalanta but that didn’t stop Fulham from making a late bid for his services, having ‘entered suddenly’ into the race for his signature.

They also made a proposal to Milan, but it was not enough to make them wave and break their agreement with Atalanta. The offer from the latter was also more stimulating to the player compared to what was on offer from Fulham and other English suitors.

De Ketelaere will be spending this season on loan somewhere else in Italy either way, with Fulham’s late minute bid not enough to convince Milan or the player to change their minds.
