Monday morning’s news on Viktor Gyökeres was essentially that there was no news on Viktor Gyökeres.
After Arsenal and Sporting CP having agreed the bones of a transfer over a week ago, with the Gunners paying €63.5m plus a potential €10m in bonuses payments and the player’s agent reportedly giving up his cut, there was still disagreement over how the bonuses were made up.
Sporting president Frederico Varandas had wanted all of the €10m to be relatively easy to achieve, and on top of that there was a desire to get €7.5m of the extra within the first two seasons of the striker being at Arsenal.
Record now report there’s been a compromise which has seen an agreement between the two sides. According to their information, Arsenal will still be paying €10m in bonuses, and Varandas has got his way on those being easily attainable, but the triggers and payments are now spread out over a longer period.
Record explain: ‘According to our newspaper, the €10m remains “attainable,” but now for a longer period, the full duration of the contract. These objectives are related to the club’s individual and collective performance, in some cases combined—that is, titles or Champions League qualification only count if the player participates at least partially.’
There’s no information on general terms and length of payment, the solidarity mechanism or whether those two points have been finalised.
MaisFutebol add that despite now being closer, the two clubs have ‘not yet reached a complete understanding’. CNN Portugal report the same. A Bola also pull things back a little, explaining that whilst there’s been progress, that new offer hasn’t been submitted formally yet.
