Manchester United are so eager to appoint Rúben Amorim that they’re trying to get him into the role ahead of the weekend so he can be in charge for the Premier League clash against Chelsea.
The Red Devils parted ways with Erik ten Hag on Monday following the defeat to West Ham United at the weekend. They wasted no time in approaching their favourite to take over from the Dutchman, and the Portuguese press are now saying Sporting are very close to losing their manager.
Record state Manchester United want Amorim at Old Trafford for Sunday’s match against Chelsea. And as far as the Portuguese newspaper have it, they don’t just want him there to take in the atmosphere but rather to be in charge of the squad for that game.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is the interim manager and will lead the club for their match against Leicester City on Wednesday evening. If Record are correct then that may be his only game in charge.
It does sound a rush though, and perhaps Amorim just being there is what Manchester United will have to settle for.
