A little earlier today, indeed less than half an hour ago, we covered a claim from Portuguese newspaper Record which stated Manchester United want Rúben Amorim in charge for the club’s match against Chelsea.
The Red Devils face Leicester City on Wednesday evening, and that could be the only game in charge for Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was appointed the club’s interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s departure.
Quickly after the claim from Record, another Portuguese newspaper, A Bola, is now reporting another update.
A Bola state, according to their own information, that three Manchester United officials are travelling to Lisbon today to seal the deal for the club’s next manager.
Sporting face Nacional in the Taca da Liga tonight, and Manchester United’s plan is to ‘close an agreement with the coach immediately after the game.’
That could take those officials into the early hours of Wednesday, given the match against Nacional only kicks off at 20:15.
The game, which is a home one for Sporting, presents a good opportunity for Amorim to say goodbye to his adoring supporters.
