Despite Chelsea pushing to sign almost every player on offer in the transfer market these days, and seemingly succeeding, there is one man who is standing firm.
That is, according to Foot Mercato, Marcus Thuram, whose contract at Borussia Mönchengladbach ends at the end of the season.
That makes him either a cheap option for January or able to speak to clubs about a free transfer in the summer, and Chelsea were keen on doing the former.
The Blues ‘initiated concrete contacts to convince the player’ to sign in January and join the likes of Benoit Badiashile and Mykhaylo Mudryk, and the striker did give it some thought, wondering whether to make the jump now or at the end of the season.
Foot Mercato state that after some time, Thuram ‘has chosen to say no to the offensives’ from Chelsea and will finish the season at Gladbach.
Therefore, he will leave the Bundesliga side on a free deal at the end of the campaign, which should ‘attract a large number of candidates’, and it’s believed the Blues will ‘try their luck again’, albeit with more competition to fend off.
As things stand, Thuram ‘has not chosen what his next destination will be’.
