Arsenal and PSG drew 1-1 on Wednesday night in an exciting game at the Emirates, which leaves the Parisien club on top of their Champions League group table.
French newspaper L’Equipe believe PSG were the better side, but have also made it clear that both teams were pretty much average on the whole. PSG were rated an average of 5.5, with Brazilian defender Thiago Silva the stated best player on the pitch with a 7.
With a contract ending in June, although with some kind of option for a further year, Thiago Silva’s future has been up for discussion recently, and good Champions League performances will attract interest.
Arsenal were rated 4.8 as a team, that’s the average. Frenchman Laurent Koscielny doesn’t get any favours from his compatriots who give him a 4 after what they feel was a ‘bad night’.
Olivier Giroud did rather better, with a 6, and L’Equipe say he validated his inclusion with the penalty equaliser.
Overall, L’Equipe feel Arsenal were weakened by their central defensive duo, and that they weren’t ‘very creative offensively due in particular to an average Ozil’.
The worst player on the pitch for L’Equipe was Grzegorz Krychowiak, excellent in recent seasons for Sevilla, but struggling to find his most suitable role at PSG.
