It’s rare that two outlets disagree so much on something, but following Tuesday morning’s claims from Il Mattino that Chelsea were still very much after Maurizio Sarri, Mercato365 in France think otherwise.
The information comes as part of their article regarding Monaco’s alleged interest in Shakhtar manager Paulo Fonseca, as the principality club brace themselves for a potential Leonardo Jardim exit in the summer, available for €5m.
As well as the Portuguese manager, Maurizio Sarri is on their list of replacements, but no offer has been made for the Italian.
And by that they mean nothing has arrived from Monaco, or Chelsea, or any other club, emphasising the fact the Blues are looking at other targets these days.
Chelsea were interested, have moved on, but someone in the Sarri camp is still using it to put pressure on Napoli to give him the contract he feels he deserves.
It’s just a theory for now, but it’s one worth keeping in mind in the coming weeks, especially if the Italian manager suddenly signs a new contract.
As to when that could happen, we doubt an answer will be given before the Serie A title is resolved, as Napoli are still (just about) in the race for the trophy, as that will be Sarri’s main focus for now.
