With Brentford’s chances of promotion via the Championship playoffs now completely out of the window, the club can now start focusing on next season.

A likely part of that will include figuring out what to do with the money they will be getting for Neal Maupay, who is expected to be of interest to a number of clubs in the summer after a prolific season spearheading the Bees’ attack.

With 24 goals to his name in 42 league appearances, the Frenchman has shown he can do it in one of the tougher leagues in Europe and is ready to take his skills to the next level.

Where that will happen remains a mystery, yet there is one club already rubbing their hands at the thought of a potential sale: Saint-Etienne.

Maupay’s former club, according to L’Equipe, are hoping to get around €4m from any transfer taking the 22-year-old away from Griffin Park, which gives an idea of how much he could go for.

This corroborates what Peuple Vert reported a couple of years ago, stating Saint-Etienne had negotiated a ‘strong percentage of any future sale’.

Let’s say that’s 25%, then that means the Ligue 1 side are expecting Maupay to be sold for at least €16m (just under £14m).

It’s it’s 20%, then the fee would be around €20m, and so forth.

Either way, Brentford won’t be getting all of the money, but they’ll get a good chunk of it.
