There’s been a lot written about Sofiane Boufal since the start of last season, and the Moroccan winger’s performances last season for Lille did little to quash exit rumours.
The Ligue 1 side even made it clear they were planning on selling their young prodigy, with a fee of more than €20m hoped for to balance the books and allow them to kick start their transfer spending spree.
Unfortunately for them, however, Boufal managed to get injured just before the end of the season, needing an operation on his knee that has now put him out of action for quite some time.
L’Equipe report the player will not be able to take part in team training until mid-September, which is putting a transfer at risk.
They ask the all important question: will clubs be willing to gamble on a player far from full fitness this summer?
The club aren’t so sure and could look elsewhere for their money with Ibrahim Amadou attracting interest from England and Euro 2016 trophy-winner Éder the subject of €10m bids despite only arriving permanently in Lille last month.
GFFN claim Chelsea and Southampton wouldn’t be prepared to pay upwards of €25m for the player, and this is causing the French club to get anxious.
There’s a lot of time left in the transfer window, and things could still happen, but Lille need the money soon.
Desperate times.
