The transfer that never was for Chelsea, other than the 17 (slight over exaggeration, maybe) centre-backs they were linked with before moving for David Luiz on transfer deadline day, was Thiago Maia from Santos.

The Premier League club were always rumoured to be on the verge of making a bid for the 19-year-old, but nothing ever really came of it, and then Paris Saint-Germain turned up to express some interest.

This is what Le10 Sport look at in their monthly magazine, with the Ligue 1 champions already looking at their potential winter purchases, but they know they’ll face competition from Antonio Conte’s side.

The French publication even go as far as saying that Chelsea, as well as Atlético Madrid, made offers of €20m for the youngster, which clearly came to nothing.

PSG are yet to make a move, which confuses Le10 considering their interest in the player, and Inter Milan have since enquired, adding more competition.

It may be expected that Chelsea have moved on, given the Luiz purchase, but Le10 still think they represent competition.

The message seems to be: if you want him, make an offer.

Sound advice, really.
