Marseille captain Lassana Diarra was strongly linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 club during the summer transfer window.
The French midfielder was linked with a host of clubs, including Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain, but it always appeared a bit unlikely that they’d be interested.
Former Tottenham and Liverpool director of sport Damien Comolli has been speaking to French website Le Phoceen (via Le 10 Sport), and was asked about Manchester United’s interest in Diarra.
Comolli dismissed the rumours, as he believes it wouldn’t make sense for Manchester United to sign Diarra.
He said: “Manchester United? I don’t believe that for a moment. They already have Carrick, Schneiderlin, Pogba, Schweinsteiger and Fellaini in that position. What would they do with Diarra?”
He added: “The concern of the smaller clubs, is to stay in the Premier League. So these clubs are ready to recruit players 30 and more, even though they know that they don’t have a resale value.
“If he was free, Diarra would not have had the big clubs, but it’d have been West Brom, Sunderland, Crystal Palace or Swansea.”
