Chelsea striker Deivid Washington could end up back in Brazil, with the Blues believing a loan deal could be the “best thing” for him.
That’s according to Bolavip, relaying information from journalist Rômulo Giacomin, who say Flamengo and Santos are both options for the 19-year-old.
The Brazilian has had a difficult year since joining Chelsea in a €16m deal from Santos in August last year, making just 14 appearances totalling 750 minutes last season with nine of those coming in Premier League 2.
This season he’s managed five appearances worth 150 minutes, finding himself firmly outside of the first-team squad once again.
According to Giacomin, that has led Chelsea to assess his situation, and the decision has now been made to loan him out so he can add minutes and gain experience.
The Blues are considering sending the youngster somewhere in Europe but the prospect of a return to Brazil has not been ruled out. If that were to happen, his old club Santos and Flamengo, who have long been interested in him, are both options.
For now, the situation is simply being assessed, although both Chelsea and Washington would prefer a stay in Europe according to Giacomin.
“Deivid and Chelsea think that the best thing would be to loan him to a European team, mainly for adaptation reasons,” he said.
“But Flamengo is still an option, as is Santos, even though both are not the player’s focus at the moment.”
