Friday morning wasn’t the best for Chelsea fans, who will have arrived at work to find out their club are going to be hit with a two transfer window registration ban.
Should they appeal, and they have said they will so, the Blues will hope they’re allowed to seal some deals between June and August, allowing them to plan for a barren 2020 transfer wise.
This means that we can expect Chelsea to be very active in the coming months as they plan for the next two years.
Among those who could either stay or go is Olivier Giroud, as Le10 Sport in France claim the club are leaning towards using the unilateral clause in his contract to extend it by a year.
This would allow them to sell the player should Maurizio Sarri (or whoever replaces him) choose to not use the Frenchman, or, should they decide he could be of use, allow him to play at Stamford Bridge beyond the current season.
Clubs such as Marseille and Lyon have been linked with the former Montpellier star in the past, but, so far, Giroud has opted to try and fight for some game time in the Premier League.
It’s made clear the player’s priority is staying where he is, which could be useful in light of the ban situation.
