Portuguese side Rio Ave are reportedly ‘on alert’ after FIFA started investigating the transfer of Ederson to Benfica which happened in 2015.
According to Jornal de Notícias, there have been irregularities found in the data sent through the Transfer Matching System, as well as irregular participation of third party funds in the deal.
Jornal de Notícias claims that when Ederson was sent to Benfica, 50% of his economic rights stayed with Rio Ave, with 20% of it going to Gestifute after his next transfer.
Ederson left Rio Ave for Benfica in 2015 on a €500k deal. Two years later, he made a €40m move to Manchester City.
It’s no secret that Rio Ave are one of the clubs who Jorge Mendes uses to relocate his players, maybe the main one, especially those who have just arrived in Europe. That’s why FIFA are investigating some other cases involving the Portuguese club.Liverpool player Fabinho is another one who joined European football through Rio Ave, so if this investigation continues, we wouldn’t be surprised to see his transfers getting involved as well.
There’s no suggestion of Manchester City doing anything wrong.
