Barcelona are planning a move for Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot and have already started talks to try and make it happen.
That’s according to Sport, who have the Manchester United defender and the potential transfer splashed across their front page today.
They explain that the club’s planning department are clear, alongside manager Xavi, that the right-back position is one that needs strengthening and Dalot is the one who ‘fits best’.
They have already ‘begun negotiations’ to try and bring the player to the Nou Camp and are looking to take advantage of his contract situation to get him.
He was already an option they considered in the summer, particularly when Manchester United showed an interest in Sergiño Dest, but Erik ten Hag did not want to part with Dalot. He’s since made the Portuguese full-back a regular in his team.
Dalot has very much found his feet under the Dutchman and that’s not gone unnoticed by Barcelona, whose scouts believe he is ‘a player with a total Barça profile.’
Thus, they have contacted the player’s closest friends to let them know their interest and to position themselves for the future.
They’re particularly keen as his contract is set to expire next year and he has not signed a renewal, meaning he could be available on a free, or a low price in January/next summer if he does renew for another year.
Manchester United hold the power, though, as they have the option to renew him for another year unilaterally. They have not done so at this point, but nobody doubts that they will at some point.
That’s not putting off Barcelona, however, and the ‘first step have already been taken’ to try and secure Dalot’s signature in the coming months.
