The two Catalan sport newspapers, Mundo Deportivo and Sport, are disagreeing over how close Marlon to West Ham actually is.
On Wednesday, Sport reported the move as pretty much a sure thing. Marlon would be cutting short his two year loan at Nice, and signing for Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham.
The deal would be worth around €15m and everyone, with the possible exception of Nice, would be happy with the transaction.
Then Mundo Deportivo’s Thursday edition pulled everything a few steps back. Stating they’d spoken to sources at Barcelona, which is believable, it was explained negotiations are ongoing but a deal isn’t ‘imminent’, it’s not felt an agreement will be found especially soon.
Sport’s Thursday edition continues with their stance that things are close, and the deal is celebrated. ‘Finally, a good negotiation’ says the headline of a little snippet on the issue.
Marlon is said to be ‘very close’ to West Ham, with the English club ‘already showing their willingness to accept the transaction on these economic terms’.
That’s €15m, and Sport say that given the defender cost €5.5m, ‘it would be like getting €100m for Andre Gomes’.
