Yesterday, West Ham were  reported as a key candidate to land Lille striker Jonathan David in the summer.

The Canada international’s current contract at the French club runs out at the end of the season and his free agency status is attracting a lot of attention, with a host of English clubs linked with him. Barcelona have also been mentioned as a suitor.

Italian clubs – Juventus and Inter Milan, are also interested and journalist Sacha Tavolieri spoke to TuttoJuve today about the situation of the forward.

Tavolieri said that West Ham aren’t leading the race for David. Providing more details, he said: “For the moment the team ahead is Juventus, then behind them is Inter.”

He spoke of Juventus’ striker situation and stated that the uncertainty can lead to them signing David.

“The situation at Juventus in terms of attackers is not defined. Vlahovic is on the market and could leave, Kolo Muani is not owned and was strongly wanted by Motta, even if Giuntoli will try to talk to PSG at the end of the season to make him stay.”

Tavolieri also provided some financial details about what it would take for clubs to land the 25-year-old in the summer.

“The player’s total demands are €34m, divided as follows: €14m gross (€7m net) salary, plus €10m agent commission and another €10m signing bonus.”

He also claimed that both Juve and Inter are currently discussing slightly different figures, as compared to the player’s demands.

“Juventus and Inter, on the other hand, have discussed other figures: €15m signing bonus and €4.5 m net salary. Negotiations are still ongoing and everything can still change.”

Clearly, it does seem as if other clubs like West Ham still have a chance of signing David, considering how Tavolieri states that things can still change.

The saga has been rumbling on for months now and this suggests the player’s camp have been rattling the market for a while.
