As Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is out with the Swedish national team, he had a word with the local media about his current form with the Magpies.
The 23-year-old was now asked about the great support he’s been getting from club legend Alan Shearer, and tells the journalists (via Aftonbladet) how good their relationship is.
“It actually feels great. He’s very, very involved. Shearer is really passionate about the club and you can see it,” said Isak.
“Before the cup final, Alan was down and talked to us. Gave tips and of course it helps us. Especially for me as a striker. Even when I signed for the club he told me what Newcastle means and what it means to be a striker for that club.”
With Zlatan Ibrahomovic back at the national team, the AC Milan star asked Isak to get the number 11 again. The Newcastle player claims there was no fight about that.
“There has been no discussion. I have number nine now. I think so,” he said smiling.
Isak left Real Sociedad for Newcastle on a €70m deal last summer. So far, he has six goals and one assist in 15 appearances for the Magpies.
Sweden are playing a couple of Euro Qualifiers matches in this international break. They first face Belgium on Friday and then Azerbaijan on Monday.
After losing the League Cup final to Manchester United, Newcastle now prepare for a potential revenge against the Red Devils, as they’re facing each other in the Premier League on the 2nd of April.
That game could also bring the Magpies back to the top four.
