Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso will undergo new tests to confirm the extent of his injury and whether he will miss the World Cup in Qatar.
That’s according to El Periodico Mediterraneo, who say the first impressions about the Argentine’s injury ‘are not optimistic’.
The newspaper reports that depending on the extent of the injury there is a fear he ‘could even undergo surgery’ for a semitendinosus dissection. For those not in the know, that’s an injury to his hamstring.
At the moment Lo Celso, who is on loan at Villarreal from Tottenham, is awaiting further tests as the injury still needs to be ‘cleaner’, which we can only assume means wait for the swelling to die down, before it can be assessed fully.
There is no definitive diagnosis being offered for the time being but the big concern at the moment is that Lo Celso will need surgery and that would jeopardise his participation in the World Cup.
The Tottenham man’s injury has already ‘set alarm bells ringing’ in the Argentina camp, with manager Lionel Scaloni making it clear they would not risk him for the tournament in Qatar.
What is certain is that he will not be playing for Villarreal until after the World Cup, with the injury certainly ruling him out short-term and concern growing that he could be out for a while.
