Borussia Monchengladbach’s decision to loan Jordan Beyer to Burnley last summer has been labelled a ‘fatal misjudgement’ after the player completed a permanent move to Turf Moor.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the player’s departure today as one of the five biggest mistakes of Daniel Farke’s reign at the club.
The German manager is set to depart in the summer, with reports yesterday making it clear he is set to leave, and the club are already lining up replacements.
One of the big five mistakes they say he made at the club is not developing talents, despite the fact sports director Roland Virkus made relying on their own talents one of the three pillars for them to build on.
There was little or nothing of that with Farke, who has handed little playing time to the club’s best talents, some of whom have now moved elsewhere.
Beyer is the prime example of that, with the club deciding to let him join Burnley on loan last summer to continue the development he had shown under Adi Hütter.
He established himself as a key player under Vincent Kompany, impressing so much so that fans labelled him Beckenbeyer and Burnley moved this week to secure him permanently in a €15m deal.
They see the centre-back as a star for the future and so do Borussia Monchengladbach, whose decision to let him go originally and include a purchase clause in the loan is seen as a ‘fatal misjudgement’ by Farke and Virkus.
BILD say they have ‘given away’ a player who could have been a pillar of the side for the coming years and a future Germany star, and for a fee that can only be considered a ‘small consolation’ at best.
We’re sure Burnley won’t be too upset about that, of course, in fact the prevailing idea that they pulled off something of a coup is only likely to make this deal feel all the sweeter.
