Daniel Farke’s recent comments on Leeds United man Max Wöber have sparked hope for Borussia Monchengladbach that they can sign him on a permanent basis.
That’s according to Gladbach Live, who cover comments from the Leeds man today and how he appears open to selling Wöber on a permanent basis.
They explain that Wöber is currently on loan with the German club, but that deal does not include an option for them to make it permanent, meaning they will have to negotiate with Leeds in the summer.
What they plan to do with the defender is currently unknown, with it unclear if they’ll still sell even if they are promoted back to the Premier League.
Borussia would like to keep the player, and Wöber has made it clear he would like to stay as well, if possible, but whether that can happen remains to be seen.
A transfer will depend on two factors according to Gladbach Live, one being whether Leeds are willing to talk and two whether Borussia can afford the transfer fee they’d want, with it believed they’d at least need to recover the €12m they paid for him.
That’s where Farke comes into it, with it explained that his recent comments on the matter ‘opens the door’ for the German side.
Farke was recently questioned on the situation of loan players and admitted he was cautious about welcoming back a player, and indeed relying on a player, who was at the club previously and then wanted to leave.
He used an analogy of reheating food and how they don’t do it in Germany, the implication being that he’d not be that keen on ‘reheating’ Wöber at Leeds.
Those comments are seen as a positive by Gladbach, with the website saying it’s given the Foals fans ‘new hope’ that Wöber could in fact be staying beyond the end of the season.
The belief is that Leeds United will now be opening to a permanent exit and Farke’s comments are a first indication of that stance.
