A friend of Liverpool star Luis Diaz’s father has today been sentenced to four years in prison for his role in a kidnapping plot last year.
Gol Caracol report that that the conviction of ‘Mane’ Diaz’s friend, who was a part of the plot to kidnap him in October 2023, was announced today.
A Colombian judge has sentenced Yerdinson Bolívar to four years and eight months in prison for his role in the scheme after he confessed to his participation.
Luis Manuel Díaz, father of the Liverpool and Colombia star, was kidnapped alongside his wife, Cilenis Marulanda, in Barrancas, Colombia by armed men last year.
While his mother was released hours later, his father was held by the group for 12 days before finally being released after a huge, public search.
Those involved in the kidnapped were handed prison sentences last year, but the prosecutions have continued with the sentencing of Bolívar.
The Attorney General’s Office of Colombia reported today that Bolívar, a close friend of Diaz Senior who also worked in the football school he run as a coach, had admitted to his role in the kidnap plot.
It was he who led them to a fruit stand in Barrancas, where they were kidnapped. This came after meeting with the group on several occasions and providing them with information on the ‘routines and movements’ of the victims.
He has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison as well as a fine ‘equivalent to 234 current legal monthly minimum wages and a 56 month ‘inability to exercise public rights and functions’.
Bolivar, also known as ‘Arenca’ offered up public apologies to the parents of the Liverpool star and ‘promised not to repeat this type of behaviour’.
