Former West Ham United coach Julen Lopetegui is not going to become the new coach of Rayados in Mexico, as a ‘top’ Premier League team are waiting to hire him.
That’s according to El Chiringuito journalist Julio Suarez, who insists that Lopetegui’s inner circle have dismissed claims coming from Mexico regarding his future.
Those claims have stated that Lopetegui is on the verge of becoming the next manager at Rayados, who are on the search for a new manager after sacking Martín Demichelis.
The Spanish coach has been out of work since leaving West Ham in January after a difficult 22 game spell in charge following his appointment in the summer as David Moyes’ successor.
He managed just 1.18 points per game at the London stadium and failed to settle at the club, with a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the beginning of January proving to be the final straw.
It proved to be a disappointing return to English football for Lopetegui, who had regularly insisted his focus was on the Premier League as he held off on other options following his departure from Wolves in August 2023.
And according to his entourage he remains determined to make a go of it in the Premier League, with a big team waiting to hire him soon.
“What we have, from Julen Lopetegui’s entourage, is that right now, Julen Lopetegui’s plans don’t involve managing Rayados,” explained Suarez.
“Right now, Julen Lopetegui’s main goal is to coach in the Premier League. He still has that idea in mind; he wants to continue coaching in the league he loves so much.
“His goal is to manage a top Premier League team, where he continues to have a very good reputation, where there are clearly some big teams who have him on their radar, and Julen’s plans include finding a new opportunity in the Premier League.
“Uh, there’s a team, but I can’t say, I can’t say the team. I know there’s a team that would be very excited. Is the team big? It’s very big, it’s big, it’s top, it’s top, but no, no, no, I can’t say.”
