Juventus have been attempting to sign Newcastle United’s Lloyd Kelly for a week, without really getting anywhere with the Magpies.
Talks have been held between the two clubs for the player but an agreement is yet to be reached and doesn’t look imminent either.
La Stampa in Italy have now reported that Juve are about to loan another player before the end of the January transfer window. Newcastle United’s Kelly is said to be in pole position to be that player.
The newspaper report is quite confident that a loan signing can be sealed ‘in next few hours’ and their indication is that it is likely to be the 26-year-old centre-back.
The idea of signing West Ham’s Jean-Clair Todibo is getting rather difficult, which is why the Old Lady now want to step up for the Newcastle United man, who arrived at St James’ Park on a free transfer in the summer.
So far, the insistence has been that Newcastle United have not opened up to a straight loan exit. They’d want an obligation to buy in any loan and Juventus want a try-before-you-buy deal, so until that is sorted out then no amount of wishful thinking from the Italian media is going to change things.
