Predicted to be one of the hottest transfer stories of the summer, Sofiane Boufal’s exit from Lille has been a rather tepid affair.
Suffering an injury to his knee just before the start of the transfer window, the winger has spent the best part his time off trying to be fit for the beginning of the new season.
Unfortunately for him, he’s already missed the first two games and any transfer (Lille need to sell) has been put on hold.
Towards the end of last month, there had been rumours of a bid from Watford, but Sport Witness found out no such offer had been made, despite interest from the Premier League side.
Fast forward a few weeks, and France Football on Tuesday claim that Watford have returned to the fore and made a €15m bid for the Moroccan international.
Sport Witness understands that the bid has been made, but is yet to match Lille’s expectations for their star player, with an offer of around €20m needed to convince the Ligue 1 club to let him go.
The Watford interest is certainly real, and if they up their bid, they will get their man, but after spending a fair chunk of their budget already, do they have the funds?
