Granit Xhaka was heavily linked with a move to AS Roma before Euro 2020 finally kicked off.
It was thought to be only a matter of time before the midfielder left Arsenal and joined Jose Mourinho’s latest club. There was even talk of wage agreements, medicals and Xhaka looking for accommodation, but with Euro 2020 now far behind us all, nothing has actually happened.
Perhaps strengthened by Xhaka’s performances for Switzerland at the tournament, Arsenal aren’t going below €20m.
Arsenal will feel they have every right to ask for €20m, and there’s plenty of time left in the transfer window for other clubs to come in and hit the reasonable amount.
However, pressure will be on Roma to complete the deal, given Xhaka was clearly one of the players Mourinho first asked for.
Personal terms are thought to be in place, so it’s time for the Serie A club to pay up.
