As clubs return to training and seriously start their preparations for the new season, the pressure to bring new faces through the door grows further by the day. That all important time with the manager and teammates starts to be squeezed and that’s why multiple clubs are intensifying their efforts for signings.
Arsenal are doing that with Viktor Gyökeres, with the added issue there being that he really doesn’t want to return to Sporting training and the Lisbon club can’t keep delaying the date he’s expected back. Friday is the new key date. For more on where that transfer stands, see below this article.
Meanwhile, over in Spain there’s drama building at Valencia. The Spanish side hasn’t exactly been an example of how to run a football club in recent years, and the arrival of a new CEO has caused new issues.
Ron Gourlay officially started on July 1st, and Valencia wanted to leave renewal talks for multiple players until after that date. That’s managed to irritate multiple agents and multiple players.
One of those players is Cristhian Mosquera. The 21-year-old has less than a year left on his contract and had been keen to renew. Valencia’s plan to leave everything until July and Gourlay’s arrival meant a delay and that allowed Arsenal to turn the defender’s head.
Last week there was talk of offers arriving from the Gunners, and Mosquera rejecting a renewal offer. Monday’s edition of SuperDeporte, a newspaper local to Valencia, reports that whilst ‘everything points to the player leaving for Arsenal’, the whole thing will collapse if they don’t up their offer.
It’s made very clear that what has been presented so far isn’t acceptable.
