Leeds United defender Maximilian Wöber has admitted he is happy to be linking up with Austria after a difficult few months at Elland Road.
The defender has been speaking to Kicker after a disappointing first season in the Premier League that ended in relegation to the Championship.
The centre-back joined Leeds from RB Salzburg in a €12m deal in the January transfer window as then manager Jesse Marsch tried to improve his defence, which had been a problem area all season.
The 25-year-old became a regular from that point onwards but was unable to help Leeds avoid relegation as their problems persisted and neither Javi Gracia nor Sam Allardyce could fix things after Marsch’ sacking.
Relegation is just one of the issues currently enveloping the club, with Andrea Radrizzani in the midst of selling to 49ers Enterprises and a whole new sporting structure needed.
Things are tense, to say the least, and that is something the players are more than aware of, with Wöber admitting it is good to get out of that atmosphere.
“Everything feels freer,” he told the newspaper.
“It’s good for me to be able to concentrate on other things again. We just didn’t manage to get wins in the important games. Everything was tense in a way.”
