VfB Stuttgart sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth has insisted they are ‘doing everything’ to ensure that striker Serhou Guirassy remains at the club as the likes of Newcastle United circle.
Suddeutsche Zeitung cover comments from the Stuttgart director today after he was questioned about the futures of Guirassy, Waldermar Anton and Deniz Undav.
Guirassy in particular has been heavily linked with a move away from the club in the coming weeks after a superb first half of the season that has seen him manage 18 goals and two assists in 14 games.
That’s ramped up interest in his signature as he has a release clause worth €17.5m in his current contract, a figure several clubs around Europe consider a bargain.
Newcastle United are believed to be one of them and reports over the last few weeks have indicated they are showing an increased interest in the striker as they look to bolster their injury hit squad in January.
A report this week indicated that they would have to pay more than potential rivals but are still keen, nonetheless.
Wohlgemuth is aware of interest from Newcastle and other clubs in his team’s star man, but insists they are doing everything in their power to ensure he does not depart.
“We are doing everything that is in our hands, and it will certainly not fail because of us,” he said.
“He feels how the fans love him. He feels how the team needs him. And he also feels how everyone wants him to stay here with us. He’s a very decent guy and that doesn’t leave him indifferent.”
