Riccardo Calafiori’s first season at Arsenal has been hampered by injury problems.

The defender has missed the past two games in the Premier League due to a muscle injury and so far in the league campaign, the Italian has missed eight games due to fitness problems.

He returned to fitness for the club’s Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb yesterday, even if he didn’t come on to make an appearance.

The summer signing spoke to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website yesterday about his time at Arsenal so far and was asked about his position under Mikel Arteta.

He said: “I have certainly made a name for myself as a centre-back but the coach also sees me as a left-back and I am here to become a top player, honestly.

“I want to be at a high level in both roles, both as a centre-back and as a full-back and maybe even in another role! I am here to learn and I certainly think that the way we play, the role of full-back suits me very well.

When asked about Arsenal’s title charge this season, Calafiori stated that them winning the Premier League will not be a miracle by any means.

“I wouldn’t say that winning the Premier League is a miracle because I’ve already been told that everything can change at any moment. Our objective is certainly to stay in all competitions until the end.”

The Gunners are six points behind league leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.

The gap isn’t massive by any means but Arteta’s side have been rather inconsistent in the past few months, picking up two draws in their past three games.

Dropping points in that way will have to be avoided if they want to win the title for the first time since 2004. Calafiori will be hoping that he plays regularly in the remainder of the season and contributes to a potential title charge.
