Despite some fear that Richarlison could miss the rest of Copa America, the player is fit to face Argentina in the semifinals tonight.
The Everton forward had a quick recovery from mumps, and couldn’t hide how happy he is at being back with the squad.
Richarlison had to be isolated during the treatment, while the other Brazil players were vaccinated to avoid the risk of infection.
When rejoining the squad, Richarlison was encouraged to make a speech, and admitted that it was pretty hard to be away from his teammates.
“First, I have to thank God for being here again, and then thanking you for the strength, because… to stay there for three days is crazy stuff! I couldn’t wait to leave the room,” said Richarlison.
During his recovery, the player was invited to see the pre-match talk for the game against Peru on a video call, and talked about how important it was.
“I was there very sad. I got the call to attend the meeting. So it was very important to me, because I didn’t feel alone. So it was a difficult time. Of course I didn’t expect it. I was cut out hours before the game. I wanted to be there with you to celebrate.
“I managed to celebrate inside the room, as if I were at the game, and that’s what it’s worth, this spirit. I’m very happy to come back, to be here with you, I hope we can win the game and go to the final.”
After the emotional speech, Richarlison was obviously asked to imitate a pigeon, and was a bit shy this time, as you can see in the video below.
