Everton were credited with an interest in Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze towards the end of the summer transfer window.
On August 31st, multiple reports coming out of the Spanish press stated the Toffees have made contact with the La Liga side for the winger.
Later that day, Mundo Deportivo stated the 23-year-old is one step away from Goodison Park as Everton reached an agreement in principle with Unai Emery’s side.
A day later, AS reported Villarreal expect the Merseyside club to make a ‘high amount’ offer for the player.
The Nigeria international is still with the Yellow Submarine and the status will not change, at least until the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
Friday’s edition of El Periódico Mediterráneo states the player ‘stays’ at Villarreal because the offer from Everton ‘did not arrive’.
Frank Lampard’s side completed the signings of Idrissa Gana Gueye and James Garner on the deadline day.
The report adds Everton’s decision to invest elsewhere means Chukwueze could not leave the Spanish club.
