Everton were involved in a bit of a Turkish transfer drama on Friday.

First, Beto’s agent flew to Istanbul over talks for a January move to Fenerbahçe. The Turkish club are searching for a striker before the window closes as they get set to part ways with Youssef En-Nesyri.

Fenerbahçe made some sort of offer, although it was unclear whether that was to Everton or the player’s camp. Beto’s plan is to look for more prominence given he’s slipped behind Thierno Barry at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Quickly after that came claims Everton had again asked for Youssef En-Nesyri themselves. Efforts had been made for the Morocco international previously, but time it was a swap deal for Beto. The Toffees and Nottingham Forest had both been rejected earlier in the window as the player hoped for somewhere sunnier.

In recent days he’s been negotiating a move to Juventus. Turin doesn’t exactly bake in the heat, so perhaps Everton thought it was worth another try.

Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, one of the most prominent sports journalists in Turkey, now reports the swap effort quickly died and it brought a halt to general negotiations, at least for yesterday.

Sabuncuoğlu explains: ‘Negotiations between Fenerbahçe and Everton regarding a player swap involving Youssef En-Nesyri and Beto have failed. Youssef En-Nesyri did not want to go to Everton, and the swap talks have stalled!’

Everton have been having transfer talks around Beto’s situation

David Moyes talked down a Beto exit on Friday.

The manager explained he needs the striker because he doesn’t have a lot of options.

Despite those words from Moyes it’s quite clear something is going on since the agent was actually pictured during the process.

Saturday’s edition of Sabah reports Fenerbahçe are pushing for the signing. There’s set to be fresh talks over the weekend and whilst En-Nesyri may be out of the picture, the effort to sign Beto continues.
