Back in the summer, Everton were said to be one of the candidates to sign Moussa Dembele from Lyon.
The striker was leaving the French side at the end of his contract, and among the Premier League clubs who were said to be interested in his situation, the Toffees got mentioned a few times.
Now as Foot Mercato features an exclusive interview with Dembele, they asked him about the race for him, and he insisted that he received many offers.
The Everton target claimed he didn’t want to take long to pick his next club, and didn’t mind the criticism when choosing Al-Ettifaq.
“Yes, I had (other offers). I set myself the goal of making a decision before the end of July while evaluating other options and the interests of other clubs.
“People are free to think and say what they want. They will always criticise without knowing. Those who criticise would dream of finding themselves in this situation,” he added in regards to the move to Saudi Arabia.
Now if Everton have any interest in making a new attempt to sign Dembele in the near future, it seems they better forget about it, as the player is completely focused on his time in Saudi Arabia, and dismissed the chance of moving to the Premier League.
“Honestly, I’m happy here and I’m not even thinking about it today.”
Dembele is off to a great start in Saudi Arabia, with eight goals and one assist in seven games.
