Over the past few days, the Catalan media have talked about Barcelona’s firm interest in Everton’s Amadou Onana.
On Wednesday, Sport reported Barca sporting director Deco has identified the 22-year-old as the main target for the summer.
These claims aren’t going away as the Everton star is on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo.
The La Liga side’s financial situation forced them to settle for Oriol Romeu last summer, and he hasn’t been convincing so far.
Xavi Hernández has recently deployed Andreas Christensen in the midfield and only exceptional performances from him until the end of the season would convince Barca to change their plans to sign a new midfielder.
If not, they’ll look at other options and the Belgium international is ‘in the pole position’. The Catalan club have good reports about him and he’s the one who ‘seduces the most’.
The Toffees are currently in the 18th spot and if they were to get relegated, Mundo state he’ll cost less in the summer. A deal won’t be easy because Chelsea are following Onana, but his will could favour Barcelona.
Sean Dyche’s side have valued the former Lille man at €60m. That’s according to Sport, who say the fee could be ‘significantly reduced’ if they drop to the Championship.
In that case, Onana ‘would ask to leave’ and Everton would be forced to sell him for a lower price.
