Perhaps one of Everton’s best players when fit, Lucas Digne has rightly earned himself a spot in Didier Deschamps’ plans in the France national team.
Expected to be among those picked, at least for the provisional squad, ahead of the 2020 Euros, the defender wants to make up for missing out on the 2018 World Cup success this summer.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Digne, who has 35 caps to his name at the age of 27, knows he has to ‘continue this way’ in order to maintain his international status.
For the Frenchman, the move to Goodison Park was exactly what he needed following his spell at Barcelona, having ‘gone up a level’ with the Toffees and playing his ‘best football’ in a blue shirt.
With six assists in 14 Premier League games, the Everton star has shown time and time again his efficiency going forward, which has been highlighted even more under Carlo Ancelotti this season.
He had nothing but praise for the Italian manager, saying: “He’s the centrepiece of the Everton project. That players like James Rodríguez or Allan have come isn’t random. It’s because of him. They are very good players and they came for the manager in particular.
“It’s amazing to be able to work with a great manager like him, who has won so many trophies and who, on a human level, is very close to the players. He’s super professional, demanding but also knows when to be relaxed and calm. He manages to oversee a squad in an incredible manner”.
