Over the course of the past few weeks, Everton and Southampton, both in rather precarious positions in the Premier League, have been going after similar players.
They were both keen on Terem Moffi at one point, and have both made offers for Kamaldeen Sulemana, all the while also seeing if they could lure Moussa Dembélé away from Lyon.
Neither Everton and Southampton have managed any of those things, but they aren’t giving up yet, and are once again targeting the same striker.
This time, it’s KRC Genk’s Paul Onuachu, who has a long history of being linked with a move to the Premier League, due to his size and ability to find the back of the net.
Foot Mercato are the ones reporting this on Tuesday morning, claiming that despite receiving an exit pass from his club in case of a good winter offer, the Nigerian striker is currently ‘blocked’ by Genk.
Either way, that isn’t going to stop Everton or Southampton, as the website state that ‘two offers are on the verge of arriving on the desk’ of the Belgian side.
That’s because the Toffees and the Saints ‘want to sign him come midnight’, and both are ‘ready to put between €15-20m on the table’, although Foot Mercato to state they aren’t sure if ‘that will be enough to convince the current league leader’.
Onuachu is contracted to Genk until 2024, and has scored 16 goals in 19 Jupiler Pro League games this season, which has taken his tally to 85 goals in 134 games in all competitions for the club.
